The Donald W. Reynolds Library Serving Baxter County will celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day this Saturday, Sept. 19, with an afternoon of themed activities. The event is scheduled from noon to 3:30 p.m. and offers families and individuals the chance to join in the fun by dressing or speaking like a pirate.
Visitors who tell a pirate joke to library staff will earn a piece of pirate-themed treasure, adding a lighthearted incentive for participation. The festivities also include a screening of an episode from PBS’s “Rogue History” series, featuring Revolutionary War naval commander John Paul Jones.
International Talk Like a Pirate Day began as a playful idea between two friends in Oregon in 1995 and has since grown into an annual celebration on Sept. 19. The library’s event provides the community with an interactive and engaging way to recognize the lighthearted holiday.
