Paragould, Ark. — The Paragould Parks and Recreation Department is calling on local businesses, churches, and community groups to pitch in for its sixth annual Halloween 'Trick or Treat' event by donating candy.
Held indoors at the community gym, the event provides a safe, climate-controlled space for families to celebrate Halloween. According to Parks and Recreation Director James Kashak, the festivities have attracted between 1,200 and 2,000 children in previous years.
“We host the event in our gym, so it’s a cool area if it’s going to be hot that day—and I’m sure it will be,” Kashak explained. “Everybody just decorates the tables in the gym, and there’s a line that forms. They come through, visit everybody’s table, and get candy.”
Organizers are also taking precautions to accommodate participants with food allergies. Participating groups are encouraged to clearly label candy or alert families if their offerings might contain allergens.
The free event is scheduled for Halloween night on Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 8 p.m.
