A Blytheville man died following a two-vehicle crash in Craighead County, according to Arkansas State Police.

The collision occurred around 6:45 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 11, at the intersection of Highways 18 and 135 in Black Oak.

A preliminary fatal crash report stated that 53-year-old Gregory Groves was behind the wheel of a northbound 2023 Chevy Traverse when he attempted to make a left turn. During the turn, his vehicle entered the path of an eastbound 2016 Kenworth semi-truck, driven by 43-year-old Derick Smithson of Trumann.

Both drivers were transported to area hospitals, including St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro and Regional One Medical Center in Memphis. Authorities confirmed that Groves succumbed to his injuries.

No further details on Smithson’s condition or additional factors in the crash were immediately available.

The incident remains under investigation.
