Hoxie, Ark.—Despite his recent resignation, Tim Taylor’s name will stay on the November ballot for Hoxie mayor, according to the Lawrence County Clerk's office. Taylor has not officially withdrawn from the election, and, with voting already underway for military and overseas voters, it is too late to modify the ballots.
State law mandates deadlines for ballot-related changes, and the Arkansas State Board of Election Commissioners confirmed that the finalized ballots cannot be altered. Chris Madison, director of the board, acknowledged concern over the potential for an inactive candidate to win. However, election protocols ensure continuity in city leadership.
“If he wins but has withdrawn, he’s not eligible to take office. The interim mayor could remain in the role as a holdover until a resolution is reached,” Madison explained.
Currently, the Hoxie City Council has the authority to appoint an interim mayor to complete Taylor's term through the end of the year. As of publication, Hoxie City Hall has not confirmed whether an interim mayor has been selected.
The local election will proceed as scheduled, with Taylor’s name appearing on the ballot, though his candidacy has effectively ended with his resignation.
