JONESBORO, Ark. — The Jonesboro City Council and the Public Services Council Committee convened Tuesday night to address several proposals, including a land-use agreement for a children’s museum, restrictions on camping in city parks, and a private club permit for a local restaurant.
The Public Services Council Committee approved an ordinance granting the Northeast Arkansas Children’s Museum the use of city-owned property at 215 Monroe Avenue. According to officials, the agreement specifies that the museum must secure funding before constructing a building on the site. The property will revert to city ownership if the museum fails to meet its financial benchmarks. While this approval from the committee is a significant step forward, the proposal still requires final approval from the full City Council, which is expected to review it at its next meeting.
The museum’s leadership is currently working to raise funding to bring the project to fruition. No additional details regarding specific fundraising efforts or timelines were disclosed during the meeting.
In another matter, the City Council gave its initial consideration to an ordinance introducing a private club permit for 141 Prime, a future restaurant proposed for 2740 North Church Street. Plans presented in city documents indicate the establishment would offer a menu featuring steaks, seafood, sandwiches, appetizers, and other items.
Additionally, officials reviewed a proposed ordinance aimed at restricting camping in city parks to designated areas only. The measure is intended to better regulate park use, though further specifics on enforcement strategies or implementation were not discussed at Tuesday’s meeting.
The City Council is expected to revisit these issues in upcoming sessions as part of its ongoing efforts to manage land use, local business permits, and community regulations.
