LITTLE ROCK — State Sen. Jonathan Dismang, a Republican from Searcy, announced Tuesday that he is resigning from his Senate seat to take a position with the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas. His resignation is effective Sept. 15.
“After much thought, I’ve decided it’s time for me to step away from the Arkansas State Senate,” Dismang said in a statement. “Serving the people of Arkansas has been an opportunity very few people ever get, and I’m grateful for the trust they placed in me.”
Dismang, whose district covers White County and parts of Cleburne and Faulkner counties, has served in the Arkansas General Assembly for nearly 20 years. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2009, before joining the state Senate in 2010.
Reflecting on his tenure, Dismang said, “I’ve tried to focus on issues of consequence. I came here hoping I could make an impact, and I hope that when all is said and done, I helped move the needle a little bit for the better.”
No information has yet been released about a special election or appointment to fill Dismang’s seat. The Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas, where Dismang will begin his new role, supports and represents electric utility cooperatives statewide.
