A 19-year-old Pocahontas man was arrested Friday night after a high-speed chase that exceeded 100 miles per hour and ended in a crash just outside the city limits.
Pocahontas Police Chief David Edington said officers pursued Trae Harris through Pocahontas before the chase concluded on Highway 67 South. According to Edington, Harris allegedly attempted a "brake check" maneuver in an effort to cause police vehicles to crash. During the pursuit, Harris struck another vehicle carrying two people. The collision caused the other vehicle to burst into flames, but both occupants managed to escape without serious injury.
Harris faces multiple charges including felony fleeing in a vehicle with extreme indifference, theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of aggravated assault (Class D felonies), as well as driving while under the influence of drugs and reckless driving, which is a Class B misdemeanor.
Harris is currently being held at the Randolph County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing scheduled for today.
