Dr. Jamie Lee Aldakkour has joined Baxter Health as a medical oncologist and hematologist, bringing her expertise in cancer care and blood disorders to the Highlands Oncology facility in Mountain Home, the hospital announced Monday. Dr. Aldakkour began seeing patients in mid-August and treats individuals in the clinic as well as those admitted to the hospital.
Hematology and oncology services encompass the treatment of blood-related diseases—such as leukemia, lymphoma, anemia, and clotting disorders—as well as solid tumor cancers.
Dr. Aldakkour completed her hematology and oncology fellowship at LSU Health Shreveport and is board-certified in hematology and internal medicine. She earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth and completed her residency in internal medicine at HCA Florida Blake Hospital in Bradenton, Florida, where she served as chief resident. She graduated magna cum laude with degrees in chemistry and Spanish from the University of Houston.
Her contributions to cancer research have included work on quality improvement in cancer care and kidney cancer treatment outcomes, which was published in the *Journal of Clinical Oncology,* according to the hospital.
Ron Peterson, president and CEO of Baxter Health, highlighted Dr. Aldakkour’s importance to the region's healthcare infrastructure. “Baxter Health and Highlands Oncology are committed to building world-class cancer care right here in Mountain Home, and Dr. Aldakkour is a meaningful part of that effort,” Peterson said in a statement. “She is an exceptional physician, and her presence here means patients in this region can face a cancer diagnosis knowing that outstanding care is available close to home.”
Highlands Oncology at Baxter Health, a collaborative project between Baxter Health and the Northwest Arkansas-based cancer practice, opened in May 2023. The center provides a wide range of services, including diagnostic imaging, radiation therapy, an in-house pharmacy, a certified laboratory, genetic counseling, an outpatient infusion center, and clinical trials. It serves patients in a 14-county region spanning north Arkansas and south Missouri.
