White River Health will offer a free prostate cancer screening and educational presentation on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at White River Medical Center in Batesville. The event is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Josephine Raye Rogers Center for Women & Imaging Conference Center, located at 1710 Harrison Street.
Health officials emphasize the importance of early detection in managing prostate cancer, which is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men. According to organizers, survival rates improve significantly when the disease is detected and treated early. The event is designed to encourage men, particularly those at higher risk, to take proactive steps in monitoring their health.
The screening is recommended for men 50 and older who have not been previously diagnosed with or treated for prostate cancer. Health organizers strongly encourage participation by individuals with high-risk factors, such as a family history of prostate cancer, obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, or a diet high in fat.
This year’s program will include a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood draw. PSA testing is commonly used to detect potential signs of prostate disease and can serve as an important tool in identifying cancer in its early stages.
