Searcy High School has surged to a tie for the top spot in Class 6A, while Mountain Home maintained its position at fifth in the latest Arkansas Sports Media High School Football Poll, released this week.
The Searcy Lions, boasting a 2-0 record, secured eight first-place votes and 73 points, tying Benton for the No. 1 ranking in Class 6A. Benton, at 1-1, garnered nine first-place votes. Searcy moved up from second place in last week’s poll, climbing to No. 7 in the overall state rankings with 65 points. The Lions had been in the eighth spot overall the previous week.
Mountain Home’s Bombers, currently 2-1, remain fifth in Class 6A with 23 points. This follows their tied-for-fifth position in last week’s rankings.
Local schools in neighboring classifications also made their presence known. Harrison High School’s Lakeside team is ranked fifth in Class 5A, while Gravette is tied for fifth in Class 4A. Meanwhile, Izard County received five votes in the 8-man football division poll but did not break into the top three.
Statewide, Bentonville High School kept its lead in the overall rankings with a 2-0 record and 165 points, including 12 first-place votes. Conway (2-1) holds second overall with 135 points, followed by Shiloh Christian (3-0), Bentonville West (3-0), and Benton rounding out the top five overall rankings.
The Arkansas Sports Media High School Football Poll is compiled by a panel of 17 sports media members from across the state. This week’s rankings reflect performances through Sept. 12.
