A Jonesboro man was arrested after police say he pointed a gun at a woman and her infant during a domestic disturbance.
The suspect, Tyrek Mehki Coleman, is being held on a $35,000 cash or surety bond after Craighead County District Court Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause on Monday to charge him with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a minor.
According to a police affidavit, the incident occurred on September 13 at an apartment complex on Stadium Boulevard. Officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance involving a firearm.
The victim told officers that she and Coleman had recently ended their relationship. She said she went to his apartment with her one-year-old child to retrieve her belongings. While she was inside, Coleman allegedly began a verbal altercation and threw food at her.
The situation escalated when the victim exited the apartment and went to the parking lot, where Coleman followed her. According to Detective Bruce Wright's account in court documents, Coleman became physical and pointed a handgun directly at the victim. The child was seated in a carrier next to her at the time.
An independent witness provided a statement corroborating the victim's account, saying they observed both the physical altercation and Coleman pointing the weapon.
After Coleman’s arrest, officers reported finding a loose handgun round in his pocket and recovered a firearm matching the description provided by the victim. Coleman was transported to the Craighead County Detention Center, and Judge Fowler issued a no-contact order.
Coleman’s next court appearance is scheduled for October 26.
