PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould man faces burglary and theft charges after allegedly entering a residence and consuming prescription medication, according to a police affidavit.
Robert Owens has been charged with one count of residential burglary, a Class B felony, and one count of theft of property, a Class A misdemeanor, court records show.
Police responded to a call at about 10:52 a.m. on Sept. 11 at a trailer park on South Second Avenue regarding an unwanted individual inside a home, Detective Aaron D. Gamber stated in the affidavit.
A resident of the home told officers they emerged from a room to find Owens, whom they recognized, sitting on the couch and consuming their prescription medication. When the resident informed Owens that police were being contacted, he left, the affidavit reported.
The resident provided a description of Owens’ appearance and clothing. Officers arrived on the scene within three minutes and located Owens nearby wearing clothing matching the description, according to the affidavit.
Police said Owens appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time. Owens allegedly told officers he had been drinking vodka for two weeks and had been knocking on neighbors’ doors seeking a ride to obtain more vodka, the affidavit noted.
Greene County District Judge Curtis Hitt issued an order on Sept. 11 finding probable cause for Owens’ arrest and setting his bond at $50,000. The bond allows for a surety or another acceptable form as determined by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
The court-imposed release conditions prohibit Owens from contacting victims, witnesses, or other individuals involved in the case and from possessing weapons. Owens is also required to remain law-abiding while awaiting further court proceedings, according to the order.
All suspects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
