Sara Phelps, a licensed practical nurse at Baxter Health, was recently honored with the health system's Heroes with Halos Award. Phelps, who works on the 5 South unit, received the recognition after being nominated by a patient she cared for following back surgery in mid-July.
The patient described Phelps as showing "genuine kindness and compassion, above someone 'just doing their job.'" Additionally, the nomination highlighted her professional expertise and comforting bedside manner.
The Heroes with Halos program was created to recognize Baxter Health providers, employees, volunteers, and departments for going above and beyond in their service. Nominations are submitted by patients and their families who felt particularly impacted by the care they received.
Baxter Health President and CEO Ron Peterson, along with 5 South Director Steve Fosness and members of the 5 South unit, presented the award in recognition of Phelps’s outstanding contributions.
