The Arkansas State Red Wolves secured their first win of the season in dominant fashion Saturday night with a 52-7 victory over West Georgia. Quarterback Trey Owens threw two touchdown passes, and the defense contributed two more scores to cap a commanding team performance.
Owens completed 13 of 17 passes for 135 yards, including a pair of second-quarter touchdowns. He connected with Chauncy Cobb on a 28-yard strike and added a 30-yard toss to Jaylen Bonelli, giving the Red Wolves (1-1) a 21-0 lead.
The defense made its impact felt shortly after, with Noah Flores returning a fumble 68 yards for a touchdown. West Georgia (0-3) managed to get on the scoreboard as the first half came to a close. Colton FitzGerald connected with T.J. Lockley on a 37-yard touchdown pass to make it 21-7 at halftime.
Arkansas State continued its momentum in the second half. Early in the third quarter, Five Hamilton intercepted FitzGerald and returned it 91 yards for a touchdown, putting the game further out of the Wolves' reach.
The Red Wolves' ground game was equally effective, piling up 256 rushing yards. Kenyon Clay, Drew Dickey, and Solomon Baggett each scored rushing touchdowns to seal the team's overwhelming win.
Arkansas State will look to carry this momentum into next Saturday’s matchup on the road against TCU.
