Residents across Sharp County came together Friday to remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Veteran service organizations hosted a series of Patriot Day observances, including a central ceremony at Highland High School.
Students, staff, and the public observed the 22nd anniversary of what remains the deadliest attack on American soil. Retired military veteran and Sharp County American Legion Commander Dick Sackett delivered the keynote address.
Additional ceremonies were held throughout the region. The Izard County STEM School hosted its own remembrance event, while the Wings of Honor Museum at Walnut Ridge Regional Airport also held a Patriot Day program.
These services provided the community an opportunity to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost on that day and to reflect on the resilience and unity demonstrated in the years following the attacks.
