The Mountain Home Bombers showcased a dominant performance Friday night with a 44-21 victory over the visiting Rolla Bulldogs in a non-conference matchup at Bomber Stadium. The home team’s potent offense was complemented by a defense that set the tone early and produced game-changing turnovers.
Mountain Home struck first in the opening quarter following a defensive stop near Rolla’s goal line. Kobe Dotson and Braden Lara’s tackle at the three-yard line forced a punt, setting up the Bombers’ first scoring drive. Nazsier Johnson capped the possession with a three-yard rushing touchdown, and Isaac Ballard added the extra point for a 7-0 lead at the 5:40 mark.
Rolla responded quickly, tying the game at 7-7 with a 61-yard touchdown pass. But the Bombers answered less than a minute later. Quarterback Conner Gentry connected with Kanye Worman for a 44-yard touchdown, and Ballard’s kick made it 14-7 as the first quarter drew to a close.
Mountain Home’s defense created another opportunity when Lara recovered a Bulldogs fumble in Rolla territory. Gentry extended the subsequent drive with a fourth-down keeper, then hit Gus Wilber for a 29-yard touchdown pass. Ballard’s kick extended the lead to 21-7 midway through the second quarter.
Late in the half, Johnson powered his way into the end zone on a one-yard carry. Ballard’s extra point pushed the advantage to 28-7. Moments later, Dotson delivered a hard hit that popped the ball into the air, allowing Ford Coleman to snag the interception and return it 33 yards for a touchdown. Mountain Home missed the extra point but headed into halftime with a commanding 34-7 lead.
Ballard added a 39-yard field goal early in the third quarter, and Rolla responded with a touchdown to close the margin to 37-14. A potential 46-yard scoring run by Johnson was called back due to a penalty, but the Bombers sealed their victory in the fourth quarter with a nine-yard touchdown run by Gentry. Ballard’s final point-after kick brought the game to its 44-21 conclusion.
Mountain Home head coach Steve Ary acknowledged frustrations but praised his team’s resilience. "Despite the ups and downs, the Bombers found a way to win," Ary told KTLO after the game.
The Bombers (3-0) will open conference play on Sept. 25 when they travel to Little Rock to face the Little Rock Catholic Rockets.
