A Batesville man was killed in a crash on U.S. Highway 49 in Craighead County earlier this month, according to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police (ASP).
The incident occurred at 4:40 a.m. on Sept. 2 near Valley View Agri-Systems. Authorities say Mickey Ballard, 56, was traveling eastbound when he attempted to turn left in front of a westbound Volvo semi-truck. The semi, driven by 45-year-old Michael Coffee of Clarkton, Missouri, collided with Ballard’s vehicle.
Ballard sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Coffee was transported to a local hospital to be treated for injuries. The severity of Coffee’s injuries has not been disclosed.
ASP reported that weather conditions were clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the collision.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
