The Mountain Home Lady Bombers faced the Russellville Cyclones on Thursday in their first 5A-West road match of the season, falling in a hard-fought five-set contest.
Mountain Home began the evening on a positive note, sweeping the junior varsity match in two sets. The varsity game started strong for the Lady Bombers as well, with a 25-20 win in the first set. However, the Cyclones, anchored by an experienced senior class, responded with a 25-17 victory in set two to even the match.
Momentum swung back to the Lady Bombers in the third set, where they quickly dispatched Russellville with a dominant 25-9 performance. In the fourth set, Mountain Home controlled the early stages and surged to an 18-10 lead. But Russellville countered with a decisive 10-0 run, ultimately taking the fourth set 25-21.
The Cyclones carried their energy into the fifth set, finishing the match with a 15-9 victory. Russellville won the match 3-2, leaving the Lady Bombers still seeking their first conference win of the season.
Mountain Home’s Aleigh Lucas led the team with an impressive showing, recording 15 kills and nine blocks. Eliana Pepin contributed 11 kills, 11 digs, seven blocks, and two service aces. Despite their efforts, the Lady Bombers fell to 0-2 in 5A-West play.
The team will look to rebound Tuesday when they return home to take on Greenwood at The Hangar.
