The Norfork National Fish Hatchery will host its annual Hatchery Outdoor Adventure this Saturday, offering children and their families a day of hands-on outdoor activities focused on fishing, wildlife, and conservation. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with free admission, though food and water will be available for purchase.
Mike Tipton, representing the Friends of the Hatchery, described the event as a unique opportunity to introduce children to activities they may not have experienced before. One of the highlights will be catch-and-release fishing on Dry Run Creek, a spot designated for young anglers aged 9 to 15. Volunteers from the Dry Run Creek Academy will assist participants, teaching proper fish handling and emphasizing the importance of trout conservation.
"The creek provides an incredible experience for young anglers," said Steve Blumreich, another organizer involved in the event. He pointed to the significance of children and parents enjoying the interactive activities together.
Last year, the event drew nearly 700 attendees, and organizers are expecting another strong turnout for this year’s gathering. Registration for activities will be handled onsite upon arrival.
Tipton noted the large number of volunteers and organizations involved in making the day a success. To prepare for the outdoor setting, attendees are encouraged to bring hats, water, and sun protection.
