Judges in Lawrence and Randolph Counties have issued disaster declarations in response to severe drought conditions and heightened wildfire risks.
Lawrence County Judge Gary Barnhill and Randolph County Judge Ben Wicker each signed the declarations this week, allowing their counties to more easily request state and federal assistance if a major wildfire or water shortage occurs.
In the last two weeks, Sharp, Izard, and Independence Counties have taken similar actions.
By enacting the disaster declarations, county officials eliminate procedural obstacles that could delay access to critical resources during an emergency. The Arkansas Forestry Service, earlier this week, issued a burn ban for all 75 counties in the state, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.
These measures come as severe drought conditions continue to grip most of Arkansas, raising concerns about water shortages and the potential for rapid wildfire spread. Officials urge residents to comply with burn bans and take precautions to reduce fire risks.
