JONESBORO, Ark. — A man on probation is facing felony drug charges after police reportedly discovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia during a search earlier this week.
Cole Jarrett Walker, 33, was charged with possession of methamphetamine or cocaine in an amount greater than 2 grams but less than 10 grams, a Class C felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class D felony.
According to a probable cause affidavit, officers were dispatched around 2 p.m. on Sept. 8 to the Southern Chef gas station at 2305 S. Caraway Road after a report of a person sleeping in a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers identified Walker and confirmed he was on probation, which included a search waiver on file.
During the search, officers allegedly found a black pouch in Walker’s left pocket. The pouch reportedly contained a plastic bag holding approximately 2.8 grams of suspected methamphetamine and a glass tube with residue consistent with methamphetamine, according to the affidavit. Walker was subsequently arrested and transported to the Craighead County Detention Center.
During a court appearance Wednesday, Circuit Judge Thomas Fowler found probable cause for the charges. Fowler set Walker’s bond at $3,500 cash or surety and imposed several conditions for his release. These include a prohibition on committing new crimes, a no-contact order to be served and followed, and a ban on alcohol or controlled substances unless prescribed by a physician.
Walker is scheduled to appear in Craighead County Circuit Court for further proceedings at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 26.
As with all criminal cases, Walker is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
