A Mountain View man is facing 12 criminal charges after Stone County authorities reported he threatened to shoot deputies, resisted arrest, and assaulted officers last month.
According to the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, 60-year-old Ray Leon Mings was arrested following a call from his wife reporting an alarming situation. She told authorities that Mings, who was intoxicated, had threatened to shoot law enforcement officers upon their arrival. She also said he was waiting for them at the gate of their home, sitting in his truck with three loaded firearms.
When five deputies arrived at the scene, they found Mings asleep in the driver’s seat of his truck. Deputies noted a strong smell of alcohol coming from the vehicle and reported that Mings refused to exit the truck or allow a search. After initially refusing to cooperate, Mings allegedly broke free during the encounter, prompting deputies to use pepper spray to subdue him.
Authorities say Mings then kicked a deputy and that further resistance continued after his arrival at the Stone County Jail, where he reportedly fought officers and had to be secured in a restraint chair. He also refused to sign required paperwork.
While being transported to a hospital for a blood draw, Mings allegedly made further threats, stating that he intended to harm his wife following his release. According to court documents, Mings has a prior history involving third-degree domestic battery.
Mings is being held on $75,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Stone County Court on Thursday. Investigators have not released additional details about the incident or the charges.
