The Mountain Home Lady Bombers opened 5A-West conference play Tuesday night at The Hangar but were swept by the Farmington Lady Cardinals in varsity volleyball action. Despite a close start to the evening, Farmington took the match in three sets.
The junior varsity match, however, saw the Lady Bombers secure a win, claiming victory in straight sets with scores of 25-22 and 25-13. Layla Uchtman led Mountain Home's JV team with six kills, four assists, and seven digs. Avery Carson contributed 12 assists in the JV effort.
In varsity play, the opening set was a hard-fought battle that highlighted the intensity of both teams. Mountain Home forced eight set points but could not capitalize on any of them. Farmington required just two opportunities to close out the set, ultimately taking it 33-31.
The momentum shifted significantly in the second set as Farmington showcased their strength, decisively winning 25-7. In the final set, the Lady Bombers attempted to fight back but fell short, losing 25-19 and handing Farmington a straight-sets victory.
Mountain Home had notable individual performances despite the loss. Aleigh Lucas recorded eight kills, five blocks, and three digs. Ava Jones posted a double-double with 13 assists and 10 digs. On defense, Zoey Throckmorton led with 23 digs, while Shayn Wickersham added 15 digs of her own.
The Lady Bombers will look to rebound Thursday when they travel to Russellville to face the Cyclones in another 5A-West matchup.
