Arkansas tax collections surpassed expectations in August, bolstered by robust payroll withholdings and healthy sales tax revenues, according to state finance officials.
The Department of Finance and Administration reported net available general revenue for the month reached $508 million, exceeding state budget forecasts by $4.5 million. This marks a 2.5% increase compared to the same period last year.
Individual income tax collections totaled $2.68 million for the month, while sales and use tax collections, a key measure of consumer spending, rose to $3.87 million. This represents a $4.1 million increase over August 2022.
State Representative Trey Steimel attributed the strong sales tax performance to local residents supporting small businesses in their communities, a sentiment aligning with the broader growth in consumer activity statewide.
As of the first two months of the 2027 fiscal year, Arkansas’s net available revenue stands at $1.8 billion. The figure is $38 million ahead of initial projections, setting a positive trajectory for the state’s financial outlook.
