JONESBORO – Arkansas State University students, faculty, and staff now have access to free transportation throughout campus and Jonesboro thanks to a partnership with GOJO public transit. The initiative, which launched as the fall semester began, aims to improve accessibility and convenience for the university community.
The service features two on-campus routes, Red Wolves 1 and 2, offering continuous transportation around campus and connections to Jonesboro’s broader public transit network. Riders can access all routes free of charge by presenting their A-State ID, according to GOJO Director Lee Wells.
“This partnership allows students, faculty, and staff to easily reach Jonesboro’s restaurants, stores, and entertainment, free of charge,” said Ryan Brasher, marketing coordinator for GOJO.
On football game days, the service expands to include the Red Wolves Express. This specialized route provides transportation directly to the stadium entrance, reducing the need for parking near sporting events. According to Wells, the service operates from downtown Jonesboro near Cate Avenue at Church Street and includes various stops on campus, such as The Yard restaurant.
Game day rides begin two hours before kickoff and resume at halftime, continuing until 30 minutes after the game concludes. For A-State students and employees, as well as children under six, the service is free. Other passengers pay $4 round trip or $2 one way, with discounts available for those under 18, seniors, passengers with disabilities, and City of Jonesboro employees.
Season passes are also available and cost $20 per person. Reduced-rate passes for $10 are offered to veterans, seniors, students under 18, passengers with disabilities, and city employees. Individual tickets and passes can be purchased in advance at the City Collector’s Office in the Jonesboro Municipal Building, located at 300 S. Church St. Riders opting for a one-way fare can pay as they board. Season passes are not available for purchase on the buses.
The service also played a significant role during student move-in week, helping alleviate traffic by allowing students and their families to park and shuttle to dorms. The improvement in pedestrian traffic safety was well-received by the university community, officials noted.
