Arkansas State Police are investigating a pair of single-vehicle crashes in Independence County that resulted in two fatalities, authorities confirmed Tuesday. The incidents mark six fatal crashes in the county since early August, according to state police records.

The most recent crash occurred Sunday, Sept. 6, on Highway 25 near Cord, Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens told White River Now. This followed an earlier single-vehicle crash reported on Sunday, Aug. 30, along Highway 14 near Rosie.

State police are leading investigations into both incidents but have not yet released preliminary crash reports. The identities and ages of the victims have not been officially disclosed.

These two fatalities add to a grim tally of four other deadly crashes reported in Independence County in the last two months. State police records show those earlier accidents occurred on Aug. 3, 14, 21, and 22.

Both investigations remain ongoing.
