A Batesville man is facing multiple felony charges following a months-long investigation into alleged drug distribution in Independence County, according to authorities. Daevon Jamal Pruitt, 29, was taken into custody on Sept. 2 after law enforcement executed a search warrant at his residence.
The operation involved the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force, the Independence County Sheriff’s Office, and the Arkansas State Police. Authorities said the investigation began earlier this year and included multiple controlled purchases conducted by undercover agents. The investigation targeted allegations that Pruitt was distributing controlled substances in the area.
During the search of Pruitt’s home, investigators reportedly found several grams of MDMA, also known as ecstasy, along with marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and equipment typically used for narcotics distribution.
Pruitt is now charged with four Class B felonies—three counts of delivery of a Schedule I controlled substance (MDMA) and one count of possession of MDMA with the intent to deliver. He also faces three Class C felonies, including two counts of unauthorized use of another person’s property to facilitate a crime and one count of possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance with the purpose to deliver.
Citing Pruitt’s prior criminal history, prosecutors have added a habitual offender enhancement to the charges under Arkansas law. His bond has been set at $20,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
“The 16th Drug Task Force and the Independence County Sheriff’s Office are committed to aggressively investigating and holding accountable those who distribute dangerous and illegal drugs in our neighborhoods,” said Johnny Byler, commander of the 16th Drug Task Force, in a statement.
