The 5th annual Arktoberfest, hosted by Rapp's Barren Brewing Company, will take place Saturday, October 7, on the Mountain Home Square. The festival celebrates the fall season with beer, family-friendly activities, games, and food vendors, drawing an enthusiastic crowd every year.
Russell Tucker of Rapp's Barren Brewing Company described the festivities as the official start of autumn. Arktoberfest will feature popular events such as the Beer Mile, where participants run a mile, drinking a beer every quarter-mile, and Hammerschlagen, a game that challenges contestants to drive nails into a block of wood using a blacksmith hammer. Another highlight is the Steinhoisting championship, testing participants’ endurance in holding a full glass beer stein at arm's length for as long as possible.
The festival isn’t just about fun and games—it also benefits a good cause. Proceeds from the event will support the Mountain Home Backpack Program, which provides food assistance to local children. Joe Strickland of First United Methodist Church emphasized the program's impact on the community.
Arktoberfest will also showcase unique beer selections from Rapp’s Barren and other brewers. Tucker noted that each year’s beer offerings have distinct flavors, including the special Arktoberfest brew.
