For over thirty years, the Cherokee Village Fire Department has participated in the national “Fill the Boot” campaign, a fundraiser supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association and benefiting children and families affected by muscular dystrophy.
This year, in light of high temperatures, fire officials are making adjustments to the traditional format. Cherokee Village Fire Chief Kal Dienst announced that firefighters will be stationed at two specific locations to collect donations: Carol’s Lakeview Restaurant and Casey’s General Store at the south entrance to Cherokee Village. The collection effort will take place today from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Chief Dienst emphasized the importance of the fundraiser in supporting families dealing with muscular dystrophy and encouraged community members to stop by and contribute. “All donations are appreciated,” he added.
The “Fill the Boot” campaign, organized annually by fire departments across the country in partnership with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, is one of the most recognizable charitable efforts in local communities. Contributions collected locally help fund research, advocacy, and support services for individuals diagnosed with neuromuscular diseases.
Residents are asked to make their donations during the morning hours, ensuring that both firefighters and contributors can stay safe during the hotter parts of the day. The fire department expressed gratitude to the community for its continued generosity and support of their efforts.
