High school football teams across the region are gearing up for another round of games tonight as the 2026 season continues. Several teams are preparing for key matchups, while others are taking a week to regroup.
The Mountain View Yellowjackets are set to open their season on the road against the Harrisburg Hornets. Mountain View had a bye week during last Friday's season-opener and has used the time to prepare for their first contest of the year. Yellowjackets head coach Curtis Sims described Harrisburg as a tough competitor and expressed high hopes for his team as they head into their debut game of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Harrisburg.
In Salem, the Greyhounds aim to bounce back after a tough 31-6 loss to Greene County Tech in their season-opener at home. Head coach Billy Webber said the team has worked diligently this week to address errors from the opening game. The Greyhounds will face Pocahontas tonight, with Webber emphasizing the need for his players to be at their best against what he described as a strong opponent. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Salem.
Meanwhile, Yellville-Summit has a bye this week. The team will return to action on Sept. 11 with an away game at Greenland.
In Missouri, the Ava Bears are coming off a thrilling 14-12 season-opening win against Forsyth. Ava will host Logan-Rogersville tonight at 7 p.m., looking to continue their momentum.
Other teams in action include Marked Tree, which will travel to Marshall; Izard County, which faces Dermott on the road; and Missouri’s Mountain Grove, which is set to play at West Plains.
Fans across the region are expected to be out in full force to cheer on their teams under the Friday night lights.
