Alumni Association to Honor Three Graduates as Distinguished Alumni

The Arkansas State University Alumni Association will honor three notable graduates as Distinguished Alumni during the university’s Homecoming celebration, marking over 40 years of the organization's most prestigious recognition. The awards celebrate alumni who exemplify excellence in their careers, commitment to community service, and dedication to A-State.

This year’s honorees are Dr. Timothy D. Langford of Little Rock, Phillip T. Poston of Jonesboro, and Dr. Billy Don Tiner of San Antonio, Texas. They were selected by the Alumni Association’s board of directors from nominations submitted by fellow alumni and supporters. The recipients will be recognized during Homecoming weekend with a highlight presentation at halftime during the Red Wolves' football game on Saturday, Oct. 24.

"The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes graduates whose accomplishments bring honor to Arkansas State University through professional achievement, service and leadership," said Natalie Rogers, president of the Alumni Association. "Dr. Langford, Mr. Poston, and Dr. Tiner have each made a lasting impact in their professions, communities, and at A-State, and we are proud to celebrate their accomplishments."

**Dr. Timothy D. Langford**

Langford, a 1984 graduate with a degree in zoology and pre-medicine, has earned distinction as a leading physician and academic figure in Arkansas. After completing his medical degree and urology residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), Langford built a successful career with Arkansas Urology and later became professor and chair of UAMS’s Department of Urology in 2021.

A standout student-athlete during his time at A-State, Langford was named an All-Southland Conference quarterback and the first recipient of the Terry Gwin Award, which honors the university's top student-athlete annually. His contributions to A-State athletics earned him inductions into the Athletics Hall of Honor and the Ring of Honor. Langford and his wife, Terri, also established the Tim and Terri Langford Sports Medicine Center through a major gift.

Langford’s dedication to A-State continued well beyond his student years. Appointed to the university's System Board of Trustees in 2014 and reappointed in 2019, he played a key role in overseeing institutional growth during his tenure. He was later named trustee emeritus. His leadership extends to other Arkansas health and education initiatives, including roles at Baptist Health and professional medical associations.

**Phillip T. Poston**

Poston, a 1996 A-State graduate with a marketing degree, has contributed significantly to the success of Hytrol Conveyor Company, a major Jonesboro-based manufacturing business. Over his 27-year career, Poston has held leadership roles across the organization, played a central role in defining its mission and vision, and overseen the launch of its Fort Smith facility. Currently the company’s chief administrative officer, Poston leads initiatives in workforce development, academic partnerships, and strategic planning.

A recognized advocate for economic development in Arkansas, Poston serves on several impactful boards, including the Arkansas Research Alliance and the Jonesboro Economic Development Corporation. His efforts to connect industry and education have created opportunities for students and professionals across the state.

Poston also actively supports his alma mater, contributing to academic programs, scholarships, and student success initiatives. A member of the College of Engineering and Computer Science Advisory Board, he has played a key role in securing funding for university projects and remains a dedicated advocate for the long-term growth of A-State.

**Dr. Billy Don Tiner**

Tiner, a 1972 graduate with a degree in zoology, has distinguished himself across diverse fields, including medicine, military service, and philanthropy. After earning a dental degree from the University of Tennessee and a medical degree from the University of Texas, he became a nationally respected oral and maxillofacial surgeon. His professional achievements include serving as president of multiple organizations, such as the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Tiner has received numerous accolades during his career, including the Presidential Achievement Award from the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and recognition as an Outstanding Alumnus by the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry. A retired U.S. Navy captain with 25 years of service, Tiner continues to exemplify leadership and commitment.

At A-State, Tiner’s philanthropic contributions include an endowed scholarship for Pocahontas High School graduates, support of the North End Zone Football Operations Facility, and a key role in the Baseball Stadium Renovation Project.

The distinguished careers and ongoing dedication of Langford, Poston, and Tiner will be celebrated as part of the rich legacy of Arkansas State University’s alumni network.
