The life and groundbreaking career of Janis Joplin, a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, will be highlighted in a new graphic novel set to release in October.
Titled *Janis Joplin: Pearl*, the 128-page hardcover book promises an unfiltered and intimate look at the artist who became an enduring symbol of freedom, rebellion, and emotional authenticity through her music.
Joplin’s rise from a rising San Francisco performer to a cultural icon is the central arc of the graphic novel, according to a press release. Creators Eric Gladstone, Marika Cresta, Fares Maese, and Micah Myers combined efforts to write, illustrate, color, and letter the book.
The visual biography offers a vivid portrait of Joplin, capturing her passion and tumultuous journey during the height of her career. Known for her powerful voice and deeply expressive performances, Joplin remains an influence in modern music decades after her untimely passing in 1970 at just 27 years old.
The novel, named after the singer’s posthumous 1971 album *Pearl*, is already available for preorder and will begin shipping on Oct. 28. Along with the standard edition, fans can purchase special bundles. These include a set featuring a digital access card and a poster, as well as a limited-edition package that adds a T-shirt, enamel pin, tote bag, and a Polaroid featuring a handwritten quote from the singer.
