Mountain Home’s annual kids’ fishing derby has been renamed in honor of longtime coach and city council member Don Webb. During a recent City Council meeting, officials approved an ordinance designating the event as The Coach Don Webb Memorial Fishing Derby.
Mayor Hillrey Adams explained that the tribute reflects Webb’s unwavering involvement with the derby since its inception in 2015. According to Adams, Webb never missed a single derby, making the dedication a meaningful way to remember his lasting impact on the community.
The event flyer features an iconic silhouette of Webb and his dog, symbolizing his enthusiasm for the event.
This year’s Coach Don Webb Memorial Fishing Derby is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to noon at McCabe Park. Open to children ages 15 and under, participants are required to bring their own fishing poles. Additional details are available by calling 870-424-9311.
Adams noted that while the fishing pier at McCabe Park will not be fully completed by the event date, it will still be functional for use during the derby.
Anstaff Bank will be providing hot dogs, and sno-cones will be available for purchase during the event.
