A Marion County woman is facing charges after allegedly breaking into her neighbor’s home and stealing a bottle of wine, according to court documents and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Susan Margaret Mead, 73, of rural Yellville has been charged with felony residential burglary and misdemeanor theft in connection to the April incident. Mead was arrested last month and released after posting a $10,000 bond.
Authorities say deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a burglary in progress after the homeowner saw someone trying to enter his house on his Ring doorbell camera. According to the probable cause affidavit, the homeowner identified the individual as an elderly woman attempting various entrances until she found an unlocked back door and entered the home.
The homeowner told deputies the woman left the house with a bottle of wine after he confronted her using the camera’s speaker system. Two days later, Mead reportedly went to the sheriff’s office and admitted to being the person seen on the video.
Court records also state that Mead has a prior felony conviction in Marion County dating back to 2012. In that case, she was arrested on 11 counts of drug fraud but later pled guilty to one count under a plea deal. As part of the agreement, the other 10 charges were dismissed, and she was sentenced to five years of probation.
Mead is awaiting further court proceedings in the current case.
