The Baxter County Library is offering high school students an opportunity to earn volunteer hours from the comfort of their own homes. Through the library’s September take-home volunteer kit, titled “Tiny Books, Big Stories,” students in grades 9 through 12 can earn three volunteer hours by crafting a small handmade book that tells a personal story.
Participants can draw inspiration from an important moment in their lives, a favorite trip, or an everyday hobby. The creations can include both illustrations and text but must remain family-friendly. Completed books will be displayed in the library’s teen area throughout October and November.
To take part, students must register no later than Sept. 15 on the library’s website at BaxLib.org/Events. Once registered, they can pick up their supply kits at the library’s teen desk. Completed projects are due back by Sept. 30. Each finished project will count for three volunteer hours, and students are limited to one kit per month.
The library will email proof of completed hours to participants by Oct. 6, making it easy for students to document their volunteer work for school or other requirements.
