Jonesboro, Ark. — GoJo, Jonesboro’s public transit system, introduced new fare changes on Tuesday that include both increased base fares and a cap on daily charges for frequent riders.
Under the new pricing structure, GoJo has raised standard bus fares from $1.25 to $2.00 per ride. Discounted fares, which benefit eligible riders such as seniors and students, also rose from $0.60 to $1.00 per ride.
Despite the fare increases, transit officials highlighted the rollout of a new “fare-capping” system designed to limit spending for regular riders. According to Ryan Brasher, GoJo’s marketing coordinator, riders using new reloadable transit cards or the recently launched Umo mobile app can take advantage of the fare caps to save money.
“Hopefully with this new fare-capping system, people who are utilizing it through either our new transit cards or through the new Umo app will be able to save money,” Brasher said.
The changes also come with updates to payment methods. Riders can now use touch-to-pay reloadable smart cards that sync with the Umo app for added convenience. For those who prefer traditional payment methods, GoJo confirmed that cash will still be accepted on all buses.
