BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. — The Mississippi County, Arkansas Economic Development agency and the engineering firm Garver are inviting the public to help shape the future of the Arkansas Aeroplex, formerly the Eaker Air Force Base.
A public meeting will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Arkansas Aeroplex’s Ramey Center, located at 4404 Memorial Drive in Blytheville. During the session, community members will have the opportunity to learn about the proposed “Base Wide Land Use Plan,” which aims to guide growth, development, and economic opportunities in the area.
According to a news release, the plan is being developed to address a range of priorities, including infrastructure, aviation, recreation, and land use, with a focus on fostering economic potential and meeting the needs of the community.
Attendees will also gain insight into the planning process and have the chance to provide feedback on what they envision for the Aeroplex’s future.
The Arkansas Aeroplex spans a significant area and has been a key part of Mississippi County’s economy since the closure of the U.S. Air Force base in the 1990s. The development of a comprehensive land use plan is seen as a critical step in maximizing its potential for investment and growth within the region.
