A West Memphis man faces three felony charges after allegedly breaking into a Jonesboro home and firing shots, according to court documents.
On Monday, Special Judge Barbara Halsey found probable cause to charge 47-year-old Floydie L. Billups with felony residential burglary, terroristic acts, and possession of a firearm by certain persons, following an incident reported on Aug. 29.
Jonesboro police responded to a home on Duckswater Street after receiving calls about a person attempting to break in and firing a weapon. Officers arrived to find Billups in the house’s garage, with others nearby. Billups had a large cut on his leg and was transported to a hospital for medical treatment.
According to an affidavit, police observed a shattered glass patio door at the scene, with blood on the ground and inside the home. A trail of blood reportedly led from the door to a basement stairwell and into the garage. Officers did not locate anyone inside the home but discovered a firearm in a trash can in the garage.
Witnesses told investigators that Billups, described as intoxicated during the incident, became upset and began kicking the glass patio door while armed with a handgun. The witnesses said Billups was later seen raising and pointing the weapon, and they reported hearing several gunshots after exiting the residence.
Detectives determined Billups did not reside at the address but had been staying there temporarily in the days leading up to the incident. The affidavit noted that no individuals were found injured, and investigators did not uncover evidence indicating anyone else was bleeding.
Billups, who has prior felony convictions, was taken into custody and transported to the Craighead County Detention Center. A judge set his bond at $250,000 cash or surety. Should he make bond, Billups will be required to wear an ankle monitor and avoid contact with the victims.
His arraignment is set for Sept. 30.
