The Searcy High School football team has made its debut in the overall Top 10 of the Arkansas Sports Media High School Football Poll. Released earlier this week, the poll ranks Searcy at No. 10 among all teams statewide following its 1-0 start to the season. The team also retains its position at No. 2 in Class 6A.
Mountain Home, which held the No. 3 spot in last week’s Class 6A rankings, fell to a tie for fifth after opening the season with a 0-1 record. The Bombers share the position with Jonesboro and El Dorado, both of which are 1-0.
In other local rankings, Salem and Melbourne received votes in Class 3A. Salem earned four points in the polling, while Melbourne picked up two. Izard County also made an impact in the 8-man football division with five points, placing the Cougars among teams receiving votes but out of the top tier.
The poll was compiled by 14 sports media members from across Arkansas and reflects rankings as of games played through Aug. 29. Teams’ records, total points, and previous week’s rankings determined their standings.
Bentonville leads the overall rankings with a 1-0 record and 123 points, including six first-place votes, followed by Conway and Benton. In Class 6A, Benton holds the top spot with a unanimous 70 points, while Searcy's 51 points position the team second in the division. Mountain Home’s ranking stands as part of a three-way tie with 12 points.
In Class 3A, Fordyce continues to dominate despite a winless start, leading the rankings with eight first-place votes. Salem and Melbourne remain within striking distance after earning votes this week. Izard County’s five points in the 8-man division place it just behind Cedar Ridge, Corning, and Woodlawn in cumulative rankings.
The outcomes of upcoming games may further shake up standings as teams across the state move into the heart of their schedules.
