A Hardy resident has been charged with endangering the welfare of a minor after a parent reportedly witnessed her using methamphetamine while babysitting, and a subsequent test revealed traces of the drug in the infant’s system.
Samantha Jo Brink, 39, was arrested last week and is being held at the Sharp County Detention Center. According to court documents, Brink was babysitting a 9-month-old relative in early April when a parent allegedly saw her smoking meth on the porch of a home.
A probable cause affidavit states that the infant was later subjected to a hair follicle test, which returned positive results for methamphetamine exposure. Family members conducted a home drug test on Brink, which also allegedly indicated meth use.
Sharp County authorities issued a warrant for Brink’s arrest earlier this month after a judge reviewed the evidence and found probable cause. Brink faces a first-degree felony charge of endangering the welfare of a minor.
As of now, Brink remains in custody awaiting a court date and bond hearing.
