Two people were killed and two others injured Friday in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 63 near Sedgwick in Lawrence County, according to a report released by the Arkansas State Police.
Authorities stated that the incident began when a southbound 2014 Dodge Ram lost its cargo after swerving toward the inside lane. The falling debris caused a southbound 2021 Ford vehicle to cross the centerline, crashing into a northbound GMC vehicle.
The driver and passenger of the GMC were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities were not immediately known and were listed in the report as John Doe, a male driver, and Jane Doe, a female passenger.
The driver of the Ford, identified as 25-year-old Blaine Blasco, and his passenger, 24-year-old Keyasha Wheeler of Searcy, sustained injuries in the crash. Their current conditions have not been released.
The driver of the Dodge Ram was not identified in the police report.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Walnut Ridge Fire Department, Sedgwick Fire Department, Walnut Ridge Police, Black Rock Police, MedicOne Ambulance, Survival Flight, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, and Arkansas State Police. Highway 63 was shut down for several hours as first responders worked to assist the injured and investigate the accident.
The Arkansas State Police is leading the investigation into the crash.
