The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host a Stream Team Professional Development Workshop on Friday, September 22, at the Fred Berry Crooked Creek Nature Center in Yellville. The event, designed to equip educators with tools for teaching environmental science, runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is free to attend. Professional development credit is available for participants.
The workshop is open to teachers, homeschool educators, private school instructors, and others involved in nontraditional education. According to Heather Pitman, facility manager at the Fred Berry Crooked Creek Nature Center, the program provides students with a hands-on opportunity to examine the health of Arkansas waterways through stream studies.
Participants will receive instruction on how to monitor water quality in streams, including chemical composition, oxygen levels, temperature, and other indicators of stream health. These methods can be used to engage students in practical scientific investigations while fostering an appreciation for environmental conservation.
