The Jonesboro Public Library has launched a local initiative inspired by Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to get more books into the hands of children.

Youth Services Manager Stephanie Sweeney explained that the program allows kids to take home books for free, thanks to the library’s partnership with Friends of the Library. Books from their shop have been placed on a cart for children to select and keep.

“We are friends of the library, and the library decided to put some of our books from the Friends of the Library shop on a cart that they can take home for free, just to get books out in the community, as many books as we can, in the spirit of Dolly,” Sweeney said.

Children who want more to read beyond the free selections can still check out books from the library as usual.
