The Yellville-Summit Lady Panthers celebrated their first volleyball victory of the season Tuesday night, rallying from two sets behind to defeat Valley Springs in a tense five-set match.
The Lady Panthers dropped the opening sets 25-16 and 25-14 but turned the tide in the third set with a narrow 26-24 victory, regaining momentum. They leveled the match in the fourth set, securing a 25-21 win, and clinched the deciding fifth set 16-14 to triumph in their season opener.
Several players contributed standout performances in the comeback. True Layton led Yellville-Summit with nine digs, while Greysen Dearmore recorded eight digs, Emma Gustin tallied seven, and Lydia Goodall added six. Dearmore also led the team in service aces with four, while Gustin and Layton each notched three aces. Additionally, Layton registered a critical block to secure a key point during the victory.
The Lady Panthers will next compete on Saturday at the Slamfest tournament hosted at Harrison Creekside, where both the junior high and high school varsity teams will participate.
