The Mountain Home Lady Bombers opened their volleyball season Tuesday night at The Hangar in a non-conference matchup against Brookland, ending in a hard-fought five-set loss.
The junior high varsity squad started the evening with a two-set loss to the Bearcats, falling 25-9 and 25-11. Mountain Home's junior varsity team split its two-set match, claiming the first set 25-11 before dropping the second in a close 27-25 contest. Layla Uchtman and Dawson Harper each recorded seven kills for JV.
The varsity match saw the Lady Bombers rally repeatedly but ultimately come up short. After a sluggish start that saw them lose the first set 25-14, Mountain Home fought back, taking the next two sets 25-15 and 25-23 to edge closer to victory. However, Brookland managed to force a decisive fifth set by claiming the fourth 25-20.
In the final set, the Lady Bombers faced an uphill battle, trailing 11-4 at one point. They mounted an impressive comeback to tie the score at 13-13, but Brookland scored the final two points to secure the win 15-13 and take the match three sets to two.
Annyston Crooker led the Lady Bombers’ offense with 18 kills. Aleigh Lucas contributed nine kills, while Eliana Pepin showcased her all-around skills with eight kills, five blocks, and eight digs. Avery Carson tallied 11 assists, and Shayn Wickersham led the defense with 20 digs.
Mountain Home will return to action on Saturday, participating in the Mount St. Mary’s Spikefest tournament.
