A Harrison man is facing multiple charges, including two felonies, after an attempt to arrest him at his residence in Bergman escalated into a physical struggle, authorities said.
John Wesley Hardin, 44, has been charged with battery in the second degree and aggravated assault, both Class D felonies, as well as resisting arrest, a Class A misdemeanor, and obstructing governmental operations, a Class C misdemeanor.
According to an affidavit of probable cause from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on August 8 at Hardin’s home at 3409 Moark Drive. Deputies Justin James and Corporal Nathan Jones had gone to the location to serve an arrest warrant for felony terroristic threatening in the first degree.
Corporal Jones made contact with Hardin at the front door and ordered him to leave the home, the affidavit states. Hardin allegedly refused and retreated inside, attempting to close the door. Jones followed Hardin into the residence and tried to detain him, but Hardin reportedly resisted by grabbing Jones by the neck and pushing him away.
Deputy James soon joined Jones inside, and the two officers struggled with Hardin for several minutes, according to the affidavit. Jones used a Taser to administer a drive stun, but Hardin allegedly continued resisting. During the scuffle, Jones' head was pushed into a dog inside the home, causing the animal to bite Jones on the left cheek.
Officers eventually subdued Hardin, managing to place him in handcuffs, though the affidavit states the process took about five minutes. Hardin reportedly claimed his right shoulder was dislocated, prompting Jones to transport him to North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison for examination. After being cleared by medical personnel, Hardin was taken to the Boone County Detention Center.
Jones reportedly sustained red marks on his neck where Hardin allegedly grabbed him. Hardin's bond was set at $10,000 cash only.
