High school football teams across the Twin Lakes area are set to kick off their 2026 seasons this week, with local coaches highlighting the importance of preparation and match strategies.
In Salem, the Greyhounds will host Greene County Tech on Friday night. Head coach Billy Webber noted the challenging matchup ahead, emphasizing the team’s need to disrupt their opponent’s comfort zone through tactical schemes. Webber expressed confidence in the significant improvements the Greyhounds demonstrated over the summer, which he believes will be evident on the field.
Over in Yellville-Summit, the Panthers are heading on the road to face Hector in their first game. Panthers head coach Chaseton McCarthy acknowledged the challenges his team faces but remains optimistic. McCarthy shared his strategy for unlocking the team's potential and highlighted the importance of executing key plays to secure a win.
The Ava Bears will also hit the road, traveling to Forsyth, Missouri, for their season opener. Head coach Casey Merrifield reflected on the opportunity to face Forsyth again, the two teams’ last meeting occurring during the 2018 district playoffs.
