The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) has announced significant advancements in the long-term construction of the Corning Bypass in Clay County.
According to a recent update from ARDOT, 75% of the earthwork for the project is now complete. Crews are currently undertaking preliminary preparations, described as "behind-the-scenes work," before visible progress, such as paving, begins. These preparations are targeted for completion by the end of 2026.
Once groundwork is finalized, crews will focus on placing a strong base layer to ensure support for the future roadway. Following that, concrete paving will begin for the four-lane divided highway's main lanes.
The 4.1-mile bypass project commenced in February 2025 and is expected to be completed by late 2027. The bypass will enhance transportation in the region by improving traffic flow around the city of Corning.
