A Newport man died Saturday evening in a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 14 in rural Independence County, according to the Arkansas State Police.
Kristopher G. Cousins, 40, was driving westbound in a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer around 5:07 p.m. when the vehicle left the roadway, traveled into the west roadside ditch, and overturned, according to a preliminary crash report from state police.
Cousins was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other individuals in the vehicle, and no additional injuries were reported.
Investigating officer Cpl. Dustin Carpenter noted that weather conditions were cloudy and the road surface was dry at the time of the crash.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
