Former Vice President Kamala Harris has publicly endorsed Democrat Chris Jones in his bid to unseat Republican U.S. Representative French Hill in Arkansas’ 2nd Congressional District.
The endorsement comes as Jones' campaign highlights a recent independent poll conducted by Talk Business & Politics and Hendrix College. The poll shows Jones with 48% support compared to Hill’s 44%.
“Arkansans are fed up with rising costs and have been putting in the work to make their voices heard,” Jones said in a statement. “I’m honored Vice President Harris is standing with us. Her support means a great deal to this campaign and to the people of AR-02.”
Harris pointed to Jones’ commitment to reducing the financial burden on Arkansas families as a significant factor in her decision to support him.
“At a moment when so many people are hurting, when the cost of housing, groceries, gas, health care, and child care is squeezing families, Dr. Chris Jones has made it clear that he will work every day to lower costs,” Harris said. “Arkansans deserve a fighter in their corner, and Chris Jones has shown he is ready to fight for the people. I’m proud to support him in this race.”
Jones has made economic affordability and accountability the cornerstones of his campaign, arguing that voters in the district are frustrated by being overlooked in Washington.
“Families in this district are tired of being an afterthought,” Jones said. “French Hill is the most powerful banker in Congress, and he’s made it clear that he won’t use his power for working families across Arkansas.”
Jones stated that his campaign will remain focused on addressing the financial challenges faced by district residents.
“From the very beginning, this campaign has been about focusing on families here in Arkansas and the everyday struggles they face,” Jones added. “It’s what got us here and what will remain our focus.”
